- Wash your hair before cutting :- freshly shampooed, tangle-free hair is easier to cut
- Get sharp scissors :- if you don't you risk pulling your hair out instead of cutting!
- Start simple :- your first cut is mainly for practise so the simpler the better. Maybe cut own hair the same length throughout.
- Work in small sections :- use a comb to straighten out hair from the scalp to the desired length. Hold the section smoothly between index and middle fingers and cut!
- Less is best :- cut little bits off at a time! Don't get over excited and start hacking away. Remember that you can always cut more later.
- Leave curly hair considerably longer than desired finish length :- it will look much shorter when it curls up again! Work in a circular direction from the scalp. It is normal for curly hair to be longer on one side of the head too so don't be shocked!
- Clippers are useful :- especially for boys' hair. These little machines are safe, easy to use and can cut to much shorter lengths than scissors in less time and more evenly!
